Notes on FNOS 1.6a5
This is a BETA version!
There has been no extensive testing of all features.
Bug reports welcome and encouraged!
Well, I think I got all the important stuff in place for Fidonet
transfers. Please read the FNOS.HIS file for particulars.
NOTE: This is NOT a drop-in replacement for the 1.5b version! While it
can do the same things, and more, it does those same things differently.
This version has all the bells and whistles needed to hopefully replace
the prior 1.5b version with a few new options:
Binkley style logfile - see sample enclosed
Configurable delete local and delete remote options
Much improved carrier detect and idle timeout functions! Both are
part of a separate subprocess initiated upon successful dialup. If
you get a carrier and then lose it, it will be detected. Let me know
if you see any false exits.
FNOS will exit with one of 3 errorlevels: 0 if normal, 4 if idle
timeout occured, and 5 if carrier is lost. Should make batch file
processing easier.
The dialer has a goto command, if needed, but with the carrier
detection and the retry counter added, I'm not sure it's needed. I
haven't even tried it to see if it works . . . comments welcome.
POP3 works, at least for inbound mail. I'm not sure how to send
outbound yet, too busy getting the ftp stuff working . . . comments
welcome.
I took out the NNTPS and used the NNTP option for the time being.
More investigation is needed to sort out the conflicts.
Right now I'm mostly interested in the ftn/ftp processing. Anything
unusual or odd, let me know.
I've included the help files in a separate archive. They belong in a
help\ subdirectory off of the fnos main directory. They need
updating to include the ftnopts command and include the new ftn
stuff in the ftp help file.
Also included are the various script files to get you started. Edit to
your particulars.
Basic flow is to read the startup config file (autoexec.nos if another
isn't specified on the command line). Use the source command to read
additional commands such as the dialer and ftp commands. This allows any
config options to get set before activating the dialer. You may need to
alter the pause time between the dialer and ftp sessions to allow for
ip negotiation with your host.
